TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- An unidentified New Jersey resident won a $1 million jackpot earlier this month playing the lottery on a phone app, the app company said.

The winner, whose name was not released won the $1 million Cash4Life jackpot on January 3, through Jackpocket, an app that allows users to play the lotto through their phones.

According to the company, the winner, who had had been using the app to play the lottery for nearly a year won the second prize of $1,000 a week for life, which has a cash value of $1 million.

The winner had recently become unemployed amid the pandemic and chose the same numbers their late father would play the lottery with, a statement from the company said.

"The numbers I played were actually my father's numbers," the winner said in a company statement. "He passed away, so I've been playing his numbers ever since."

This is the second time someone has won $1 million since the app launched, the company added.
