HACKENSACK, N.J. (1010 WINS) – A 44-year-old Jersey City police sergeant was arrested on sexual assault charges, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced Tuesday.

The investigation began on Monday after authorities were contacted regarding an alleged sexual assault of a juvenile.

Authorities allege that Andrew LaBruno, who was a stranger to the victim, initiated contact and conversed with the juvenile on a social media application.

He then made arrangements to meet the victim at the juvenile’s residence in Englewood while home alone and sexually assaulted and endangered the juvenile, officials said.

As a result of the investigation, LaBruno was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

LaBruno was immediately suspended without pay by the Jersey City Police Department following his arrest and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing. Additionally, the JCPD Internal Affairs unit is conducting its own investigation to determine his final employment status.
