SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — It’s a boy! Both the baby, and the delivery doctor.
A 12-year-old boy on Long Island called 911 when his 22-year-old aunt went into labor on Friday morning, and by keeping calm and taking instruction from the dispatcher, he helped deliver a healthy baby boy.
The Southampton Town Police Department received the call at 10:16 a.m., and public safety dispatcher Christopher Brenner began giving the child clear instructions on how to help his aunt through the childbirth.
Police said that Brenner’s instructions, as well as the 12-year-old’s “cool-headed actions,” the infant was successfully delivered in good health.

Officer James Cavanagh arrived on the scene just as the baby was being born, and helped with the care of the new mom and infant.
A Flanders Northampton volunteer ambulance soon arrived and took over medical care, transporting them to Peconic Bay Medical Center.
“Thanks to [the] professionalism and diligence of all involved both mother and child are resting and healthy at the hospital,” Captain Howard F. Kalb said in a statement.
