
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Long Island couple fatally struck by a car while crossing the street on Saturday night was on their way to the husband's surprise birthday party, ABC 7 reported.
The husband and wife, 60-year-old Narciso and 59-year-old Maria Saravia, were crossing Ocean Avenue and Express Drive in Ronkonkoma when they were hit just before 7 p.m., authorities said.
Family members told ABC 7 that the couple were walking to the party hall for Narciso's surprise birthday celebration when they were hit. Some relatives said they even witnessed the crash.
Narciso was pronounced dead at the scene and Maria was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The 45-year-old Ronkonkoma driver, Jeffrey Turetsky, was not injured during the crash. His car was impounded for a safety check.
