LEVITTOWN, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- An intruder broke into a Long Island house over the weekend and bashed a sleeping woman in the face before fleeing the home with no apparent motive, Nassau County police said Monday.
The brutal and bizarre break-in happened early Sunday in Levittown as the 64-year-old victim was asleep in her bed.
She awoke to the home invader striking her face with an unknown object, police said.
She wasn't able to get a description of the attacker, who fled the home.
It wasn't immediately clear if anything was stolen, or if the assault was the sole motivation for the intrusion. Police said the incident was being investigated as an assault and "possible burglary."
Anyone with information is asked to call contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911.
