James Moshier, 64, is charged with second-degree assault for recklessly causing serious physical injury with a deadly weapon.

Police said Moshier allegedly shot through the back glass door of his Laurel home at Peconic Bay Boulevard around 9 p.m. The teen had twice before knocked on the front and back doors of Moshier's home and run away.

The boy was struck in the upper right arm and taken to Riverhead's Peconic Bay Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury.

Authorities believe the defendant thought someone was breaking into his home and did not know it was a prank.
