Officers responded to a 911 call at around 8:28 a.m. on Atlantic Avenue in Massapequa Park where they were met by three Town of Oyster Bay Sanitation workers, who informed police that an unknown man threw two bricks at the windshield of the garbage truck causing it to shatter.

The attacker then proceeded to go to the rear of the truck where he released a chemical spray towards the faces of the other workers, authorities said.

The victims all refused medical attention at scene.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that Daniel Cooney, 59, was responsible and he was placed under arrest without further incident.

Cooney is facing charges including criminal, attempted assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
