WOODBURY, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man was arrested on Tuesday after he chased a naked 14-year-old girl from a Long Island home and got into an eight-hour standoff with SWAT, Nassau County police said.

Adrees Omar, 25, was taken into custody around 5:30 p.m., hours after the standoff started around 9:15 a.m. at 26 Roseanne Drive in Woodbury.

The girl was seen "running through the street unclothed" in search of help by officers responding to a call, according to Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, who spoke with reporters Tuesday.

When officers moved in on Omar, he fled back into the home and barricaded himself inside, Ryder said. It's unclear if he was armed at the time.

As the lengthy standoff dragged on, police eventually determined he wasn’t coming out on his own.

“We’d been trying to communicate,” Ryder said. “We did make some lines of communication. We used some family members to help us out with that. After a while, he just decided he was not coming out, so we decided we’re going in.”

It’s unclear what the teen was doing at the home, but Ryder said she went there Tuesday morning “on her own will” before “something went wrong.”

Police said Wednesday that investigators had determined Omar was having “ongoing sexual relations” with the teen.

He was charged with first-degree criminal sex act, second-degree rape, second-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful imprisonment, and criminal obstruction of breathing. He also faces multiple criminal contempt charges for an “unrelated previous incident,” police said.

There have been past domestic issues at the house, which is also under pre-foreclosure.

“We have had numerous domestic calls at that residence, and we’ve had instances there in the past, but none of this nature,” Ryder said.

Police said Omar, who was hospitalized for an evaluation after his arrest, will be arraigned when medically practical.
