ELMONT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Long Island man is facing charges after he injured a police officer while resisting arrest for a dispute, police said Monday.

John Rogers, 27, got into an argument with a 53-year-old woman Saturday in an Elmont home that escalated, with him allegedly damaging property inside.

Police said an 8-year-old boy was present during the incident. The extent of trio's relationship wasn't immediately clear.

Responding officers requested that Rogers exit the home, but he refused.

According to police, an officer was injured during the arrest because Rogers was violent and combative while resisting arrest.

The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Rogers is charged with assault, criminal mischief, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, attempted criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child.
