NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Long Island police are renewing their search for a driver who fatally struck a 13-year-old boy and injured his sister in October during a hit-and-run crash.

Officials on Wednesday announced that cops have set up an informational checkpoint close to the scene of the crash on Granny Road near Middle Island Road in Coram.

Krystal said her brother jumped in front of the oncoming SUV. She was not seriously hurt, but he later died from his injuries. His organs were donated and will go on to save more lives.

At the checkpoint, flyers about the crash will be distributed with a goal of encouraging anyone who has information about the hit-and-run to come forward.

Detectives believe the vehicle that fled the scene was a dark-colored 2005 to 2009 Chevrolet Equinox.

Police are offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
