NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – One man was killed and another man was critically injured in an elevator collapse in the Bronx on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The elevator collapsed just before 8:20 a.m. at 20 Bruckner Blvd. in the Mott Haven section.
Citizen App video shows EMS and firefighters at the five-story building after 9 a.m.
The location is a charter school, and the two men were loading materials onto the freight elevator there, according to police.
The men overloaded the elevator, causing it to collapse, police said.
The man who died was in his 30s, according to police.
The building, a former ice factory, is best known for the giant History Channel sign that used to be on its roof.
The building is being renovated for commercial use. An email seeking comment was sent to the developer of the project, MADD Equities, by the Associated Press.
The city Department of Buildings is investigating the elevator plunge.
