NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – One man was killed, a bystander was wounded and two gunmen were arrested in a shooting involving NYPD officers on a Bronx street Saturday evening, police said.
Three uniformed officers who heard gunshots near 165th Street and Findlay Avenue in the Concourse Village section around 6:30 p.m. encountered two gunmen shooting another man multiple times as he fled down the street towards the officers, police said.
The officers fired their weapons towards the two gunmen, striking one of them, according to police.
The two gunmen then fled westbound on 166th Street and north onto College Avenue, where they encountered two uniformed officers on foot patrol, police said.
The gunmen tossed their firearms under a nearby van and were taken into custody by the officers without incident, according to police, who said two firearms were recovered by a crime scene unit.
Citizen App video shows police investigating at the scene.
The man who was being chased by the gunmen was struck "numerous times" and succumbed to his injuries, according to police. He has not been identified.
The gunman who was shot once by officers was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition, police said.
A bystander who was not connected to the shooting was also shot in the arm while walking on 166th Street at College Avenue, police said. He was taken by EMS to Lincoln Hospital, where he was in surgery.
No officers were injured.
Police said they don't yet know a motive for the shooting and that charges against the two suspects in custody are pending. They said an investigation is ongoing and it "will be determined" if any of the bullets fired by officers struck the man who died.
