NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 20-year-old man was killed and three more people were injured during four unrelated overnight shootings in the Bronx, police said.
The violence began 10:30 p.m. Friday night when a 32-year-old man was shot in his buttocks on LaFontaine Avenue, police said. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Several hours later, around 2 a.m. Saturday, police responding to calls of a shooting found a 20-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to his leg in the Bronx River Houses.
He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Ata bout the same time another shooting unfolded on East 137th Street, where a 19-year-old was shot in his left thigh.
The victim was transported to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition, police said.
And around 2:30 a.m., cops said a 28-year-old man was shot in the right arm on Seward Avenue. He was also transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi.
The shootings come as the city attempts to turn the corner on the 2020 crime surge that came with the coronavirus pandemic and dramatic housing and job instability.
Earlier this month, Mayor Bill de Blasio and NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea touted a drop in September murders and shootings, when compared to the number of incidents last year.
