NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 1-month-old baby girl was killed when the family’s 6-week-old puppy mauled the infant’s face as her mother and stepfather slept early Tuesday morning, according to police and sources.

The baby’s mother called officers to her apartment inside NYCHA’s Queensbridge houses at about 6:30 a.m. after she and her partner woke up to discover the German shepherd and pit bull mix chewing on the newborn, sources said. The infant was asleep between the couple when the dog attacked.

Medics responded to the apartment, but the newborn could not be saved, police said.

The child was not immediately identified.

It is not yet clear if any charges will be filed in connection with the death. The investigation is ongoing.
