NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Ten people were injured in Queens on Monday morning when a school bus driver lost control on an icy road and crashed into a concrete wall, police said.
The bus operator, a 30-year-old woman, was driving on Union Turnpike in Bellerose Manor around 7:30 a.m. when she lost control of the bus “due to icy conditions on the road” and hit the concrete wall, according to police.
The FDNY said it responded to 239-30 Union Turnpike, between Winchester Road and the Cross Island Parkway.
There were seven students and three adults aboard the bus at the time, including the operator.
All 10 passengers had minor injuries and were hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
The students were taken to Cohen Children's Medical Center, while the adults were at Long Island Jewish Hospital.
The crash was under investigation Monday, but it appears ice after Sunday night's snowfall played a role, according to police.
