NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A dozen people were shot, two fatally over a bloody 15-hour span from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning, according to police.

Six people were shot in the Bronx, four in Brooklyn, one in Manhattan and one likely in Queens. The two people who died were both shot in the Bronx at 2:30 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday.


The carnage began Friday at 2:30 p.m. when at least two gunmen opened fire at the intersection of East Tremont Avenue and Hughes Avenue, hitting four and killing one.

Jeremiah Smith, 24, died at St. Barnabas Hospital after he was hit in the chest, officials said.

Police arrested Salvatore Rivera, 51, at the scene and charged him with murder, manslaughter, assault and weapons possession.

Just two-and-a-half hours later, four more people were shot in a drive-by on Coney Island. Police believe the victims were the intended targets of the shooting and expect all of them to survive.

Law enforcement has not yet made any arrests.

Three more people survived shootings overnight. Two of the shootings took place in the Bronx and Manhattan. Police are still investigating where the third took place after a man was driven by private means to Queens Hospital Center in Hillcrest with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Around 5 a.m. on Saturday police found a 27-year-old man shot in the head on White Plains Road near Guerlain Street in the Bronx's Parkchester neighborhood.

EMS rushed him to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers have not made any arrests for this shooting either.
