NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 12-year-old boy was charged Monday with fatally shooting his 14-year-old cousin at an apartment in Brooklyn on Sunday morning, according to police and sources.
The young suspect, who was not identified by police because of his age, was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and criminal possession of a weapon.
The arrest is in connection with the death of a 14-year-old boy who was shot at 80 Osborn St. inside the NYCHA Howard Houses in Brownsville.
NYPD officers responding to a 911 call shortly before 10:30 a.m. Sunday found the teen victim inside a fifth-floor apartment. He'd been shot in the chest.
EMS transported him to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He also hasn't been identified.
The two boys were cousins, and police are investigating the possibility they were playing around with a gun at the time of the shooting, law enforcement sources told 1010 WINS on Monday.
“I didn’t mean to do it,” the younger child said as the victim was wheeled away on a stretcher, a witness recalled to the Daily News in a report Sunday.
