13 injured in Manhattan fire Saturday morning: FDNY

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Thirteen people were injured and more were evacuated in a fire that ripped through a Morningside Heights apartment building Monday morning.

The blaze sparked on the fourth floor of the six-story apartment building at 438 W 120th St., damaging multiple apartments, around 9:13 a.m., according to the Fire Department.

Five civilians were injured, including two who were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital with non-life-threatening conditions, the FDNY said.

Another eight firefighters were injured and transported to local hospitals, the department said.

Several dozen people were evacuated from the building in total.

The fire reached a third alarm, drawing 33 units; 138 firefighters and other EMS members were on the scene, the FDNY said.

The fire was placed under control about two hours later around 11:30.

Fire Marshalls and the Red Cross are on the scene, with an investigation into the cause of the fire underway.
