NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Nearly 14 percent of New York City workers, or more than 500,000 residents, were still unemployed last month, a report released by the New York State Department of Labor on Tuesday shows.
The department's preliminary analysis found that 13.9 percent of New York City's labor force was unemployed in September, compared to 3.5 percent in September 2019.
The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate did decline, falling from 12.5 percent in August to 9.7 percent in September.
Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties reported a 6.8 percent unemployment rate last month, compared to 3.7 percent in September 2019.
Nassau and Suffolk counties, meanwhile, reported a 6.4 percent unemployment rate, up from 3.4 percent last September.
The department noted that the statistics weren't "seasonally adjusted, which means they reflect seasonal influences (e.g. holiday and summer hires)."
