NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with shooting an off-duty NYPD officer in the head almost a year ago, authorities said at a press conference Thursday.

The officer Keith Wagenhauser, was in the rear parking lot of the 25th Precinct on 119th Street in East Harlem on Jan. 1 sleeping before his next shift after getting off of work at 2:30 a.m. earlier that day, officials said.

Around 6:15 a.m., Wagenhauser was shot on the left side of his head. He was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery for a fractured skull.

“I’m doing pretty good. Just glad to be alive,” Wagenhauser said at the press conference.

The teen allegedly shot from the rooftop of the King Towers NYCHA complex on West 112th Street at 6:14 a.m., authorities said.

He was seen on surveillance video loading the gun. A .45 caliber shell casing was also found on the roof of the building, police said.

Cops arrested the boy Thursday morning and charged him with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
