NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Two NYPD officers and seven others were injured in a fiery, multi-car collision on Staten Island after a police car crashed into an SUV on Saturday, police said.

At about 7 p.m. in the Todt Hill neighborhood, police were driving on Richmond Road and Hunton Street when they crashed into a black SUV with six occupants, officials said.

The police patrol car went up in flames, leaving the two officers with serious injuries. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment and are expected to survive, authorities said.

Police said that after the initial collision, the black SUV then struck a white Toyota SUV, injuring a male pedestrian standing outside the car.

The six passengers in the black SUV were injured, including the 34-year-old female driver; a 36-year-old man; two young girls ages four and eight; and two juvenile boys ages 11 and 14.

All seven injured parties are in stable condition and did not suffer life-threatening injuries, police said.

CBS reported that the police cruiser was pursuing a vehicle at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
