NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Two MTA buses were hit by bullets in Harlem on Wednesday afternoon as they were caught in the crossfire of a shooting, police said.

At least one shooter opened fire on an unknown target shortly after 2:30 p.m. near W. 123rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue, right outside the Grant Houses and a few blocks north of Columbia University.

At least six shots were fired, striking an M100 bus and an M101 bus. Bullets hit the side window of one bus and the rear grill of another, according to police and witnesses.

No one on either bus, or on the street, was shot, police said.

At least one of the bus operators was badly shaken and taken to a hospital for evaluation.

"It's a miracle no one got hit," the TWU Local 100 union said in a statement, noting that one of the buses was packed full of passengers at the time.

No arrests had been reported as of Thursday. Police were said to be searching for a man wearing all black who fled the area on foot.
