MINEOLA, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Two men have been indicted for their roles in a Fourth of July shooting on Long Island that left one man dead and two others injured.
Michael Wright, 34, and Lawrence Sims, 29 — both of Roosevelt — have been indicted by a grand jury. Wright was arraigned Monday, while Sims was arraigned on Sept. 10.
According to the indictment, on July 4 at about 7:30 p.m., Wright and Sims attended a block party on Hudson Avenue, where a verbal altercation ensued between both.
Investigators said Sims drew a weapon and began firing at Wright — but no one was hit as a result.
Wright then allegedly fired his gun toward Sims, hitting three people. Tavon Greenhill, 27, was struck in the back of the head and died due to his injuries.
Two others went to a hospital in serious condition.
"These senseless acts rob our residents of the safety they deserve. NCDA is committed to bringing individuals, who plague our communities with gun violence, to justice," says Acting Nassau District Attorney Joyce Smith.
Wright was arrested by police on July 27, while Sims was arrested on Aug. 6.
Wright faces up to life in prison on murder, attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon charges.
Sims faces up to 25 years in prison on attempted murder and criminal use of a firearm charges.
