NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Two students were busted with loaded guns at NYC public schools on Monday, sources told 1010 WINS.
The first bust happened around 10:15 a.m. at Harlem Renaissance High School on East 128th Street as police arrived with a warrant for a 17-year-old boy wanted for reckless endangerment, according to sources and police.
Police allegedly found the teen with a loaded firearm on his waistband.
The teen was taken into custody at the scene. No injuries to students, faculty or officers were reported.
The arrest happened the same day that a teen was found with a loaded gun after a fight at a high school in Queens.
A school safety agent recovered the loaded 9mm handgun on a 15-year-old after a fight between students at Long Island City High School on Broadway around 11 a.m., sources said.
The teen was also taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
In a statement responding to the Queens bust, a spokesperson for NYC public schools said, “This incident is a deeply concerning example of the proliferation of guns in our society.”
“Weapons have absolutely no place in our schools, or our city,” the statement continued. “This item was quickly recovered by NYPD, and all students and staff are safe. We are offering additional security and supports to the school community today and in the coming days.”
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story said the student was wanted for murder. Police later said he was wanted for reckless endangerment.
