NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of next year's New York City Half Marathon, organizers said Wednesday.

The 2021 United Airlines NYC Half, which was scheduled to take place in March, was called off “due to health and safety concerns,” New York Road Runners said Wednesday afternoon.

The decision to scrap the race “was made in consultation with the Mayor’s Office of the City of New York,” the organization noted.

New York Road Runners will contact runners who were planning to take part in the race directly, it added.

More information about the race’s cancellation is available on the organization’s website.
