NEW YORK (1010 WINS) –  A 21-year-old man was arrested for carrying a machine gun in a Bronx subway, police confirmed to 1010 WINS on Wednesday.

Officers patrolling the Kingsbridge Road subway station stopped the suspect, Abraham Sosa, at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday as he walked past a "no trespassing" sign and entered a northbound tunnel.

When police moved to arrest him, Sosa resisted, and during the struggle, a machine gun fell from a bag he was carrying. Inside the bag, officers also discovered a loaded magazine and additional gun parts, police said.

Sosa allegedly told officers he was carrying the weapon to prevent his mother from finding it, claiming she had threatened to throw him out of the house if she discovered him with a gun, according to the Daily News.

Sosa, who has two prior arrests, was charged with multiple offenses, including criminal possession of a machine gun, criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degrees, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, criminal possession of bullets (25 counts), criminal trespass, violating local law, and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

During the incident, a witness, Christopher Mayren, was also arrested after allegedly kicking an officer's body-worn camera onto the subway tracks and attempting to steal an officer's cell phone.

Mayren faces charges of obstructing governmental administration, criminal mischief, possession of stolen property, and aggravated harassment.
