NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — At least 22 people were pepper sprayed at a Queens middle school Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The FDNY said it received a call around 12:45 p.m. of a pepper spray incident at the MS 379 school, located on 14th Avenue in College Point.

There were 22 civilians who suffered minor injuries. Police said 11 students and four staff members were transported to an area hospital with eye irritation.

Two female students—ages 12 and 13—were taken into custody.

So far, no charges have been filed, according to officials.

"The safety of everyone in our school buildings is our absolute top priority," a Department of Education spokesperson said. "After a device was discharged in the cafeteria, the room was evacuated, and all students were evaluated by the school nurse and EMS."

The investigation remains ongoing.
