NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Tel Aviv is nearly 6,700 miles away from New York City, but come this long weekend, local foodies seeking to sample the Mediterranean city's fare need not travel beyond Manhattan or Brooklyn.

Kicking off on Sunday, and lasting through Tuesday night, the culinary event known as Tel Aviv Groove launches in New York, with a series of pop-ups. It then travels to Los Angeles for a Feb. 24-27 run.

The culinary event "brings together leading Tel Aviv chefs and sommeliers to collaborate and create with local colleagues," according to a press release. "The events feature tasting menus, concept dinners and stylish workshops that highlight the latest Israeli cuisine, Tel Aviv music, contemporary art, and of course, the best Israeli wines and olive oils."

On Sunday Feb. 19, Tel Aviv Groove will kick off at MEAT in Crown Heights, with an event hosted by chef Jonathan Sharvit. A finalist in the reality show "Chef Games," Sharvit's event will include an olive oil tasting, wines and Israeli food.

Also on Sunday, there will be an olive oil pop-up at at Bambina Blue in Nolita, featuring the Israeli brand Ptora. Think ice cream seasoned with olive oil.

The workshop will be accompanied by dishes by chef Tal Abaov from the Upper East Side's Rothschild TLV restaurant. Tel Aviv chefs Yossi Sherf and Jonathan Sharvit wil also be present at the workshop to discuss Tel Aviv cuisine.
