Three police officers were attacked Friday night in Coney Island, according to law enforcement. They were responding to a report of an assault at Surf and Stillwell avenues.
It was just before midnight when they tried to make an arrest. However, two of the officers were punched in the face and chest. A third was sliced on his head when someone threw something at him.
The cops were transported to the hospital, where they were in stable condition as of Saturday morning. Two of the alleged offenders were taken into custody and charges were pending Saturday.
According to the NYU Furman Center, the serious crime rate in Coney Island, including property and violent crime types, was 10.2 serious crimes per 1,000 residents in 2024. That was lower than the 13.6 serious crimes per 1,000 residents reported citywide.
