NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Staten Island is the most dangerous place in the U.S. for pedestrians—and other New York City boroughs aren’t far behind, according to a new study.

To determine the most dangerous places for pedestrians, Insurify Insights analyzed over 4 million insurance applications, focusing on the proportion of drivers in a metro area who reported one or more citations for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

The study evaluated New York’s five boroughs as their own metro areas given their large populations.

Staten Island was number one on the top 20 list of the most dangerous places, with 53.6 per 10,000 drivers reporting a failure to yield to a pedestrian violation.

The Bronx was number two on the list, followed by Sunnyvale, California, at number three.

Brooklyn came in at number four, while Manhattan was number six.

Queens was the only borough that did not make the top 20 list.

However, three New Jersey cities did: Paterson was number seven, East Orange was number eight and Elizabeth was number 16.
