NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Five members of an FDNY EMS station in Astoria tested positive for coronavirus, a department spokesman said Tuesday.

The FDNY is closely monitoring the outbreak by conducting contact tracing and testing and the workers remain on medical leave the spokesman added.

The percent of fire and EMS members out on medical leave due to COVID-19 has remained below 3% for several months despite the outbreak, the FDNY reports.

Astoria is also not in the hot spot that has seen a recent uptick in positive cases in Queens.

Since March, over 5,000 firefighters and EMS workers have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the FDNY said.
