NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — To honor one of the anniversaries of the most famous mobile games — you've got to go big!

That's the plan by Candy Crush, which will launch 500 synchronized and pre-programmed light-equipped drones over the New York City sky Thursday night recreating elements from the game.

According to a press release, the drones will be launched from across the Hudson River in New Jersey and will be "transformed into a candified carnival where viewers can enjoy this surreal takeover of the New York City Skyline."

Ahead of the 10-minute aerial light show at 7:45 p.m., an event will also be held at the Battery Park Esplanade Plaza with music, games, food and drinks.

State Sen. Brad Hoylman, whose district is on the west side of Manhattan, blasted the event to the Gothamist.

"I think it's outrageous to be spoiling our city’s skyline for private profit," Hoylman said. "It's offensive to New Yorkers, to our local laws, to public safety, and to wildlife."

Notably, it is prohibited to fly even one drone in New York City, which may be why they are being launched from across the river.

NBC New York reported that the city's law is currently being challenged in court.
