Multiple pro-Palestinian protestors arrested on Christmas Day during nearly 6-hour rally: NYPD

Pro-Palestine activists march as they participate in a Global Strike for Gaza on December 18, 2023 in New York City, New York. Activists gathered at Grand Central Station before marching as they continued to demand a ceasefire in Gaza. The protest convened just as the UN Security Council canceled an upcoming vote calling for a cessation of hostilities in Gaza as they try to change the language of the resolution to meet the US objections to the wording of the draft resolution saying they cannot support a “cessation of hostilities," but would agree to a call for a “suspension of hostilities."

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) –   A pro-Palestinian rally on Christmas Day in Midtown resulted in six arrests, police said.

The rally, which was part of a series of protests planned for Christmas, saw hundreds marching through Midtown and chanting "Christmas is canceled here."

The demonstration began around 2 p.m. near the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree on Fifth Avenue and proceeded downtown heading towards Grand Central Station and Union Square, lasting until 7:30 p.m.

Videos captured tense moments, including scenes of demonstrators being detained by the police. One of the signs carried by protesters starkly stated, "While Ur Shopping Bombs are Dropping."

A total of six people were arrested for various offenses. The ages of those arrested ranged from the youngest at 18 to the oldest at 50.

Several protesters carried a "No Joy In Genocide" Nativity scene, splattered with fake blood, and many waved Palestinian flags.

Of those arrested, one individual was charged with menacing an officer, another received a criminal court summons for graffiti, and four were issued desk appearance tickets for disorderly conduct.

These protests in New York City coincided with online calls for action as Christmas services in Bethlehem were suspended amidst the war.
