NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Authorities are investigating after the body of an 80-year-old man was recovered from the East River on Tuesday afternoon, according to fire officials.
The FDNY responded to the waterfront near 44th Drive and Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City just before 5 p.m. following reports of a person in the water.
Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered the man positioned beneath a pier. First responders pulled him from the river, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The NYPD launched an investigation into the incident. The Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause of death.
