NEW YORK (1010 WINS) Animal Care Centers of New York and Best Friends Animal Society are heading to Brooklyn for a two-day dog and cat adoption event the weekend of March 8 and 9.
More than 500 pets are currently waiting to find their forever homes at the three ACC shelters. Best Friends, a national organization with a live-saving center in SoHo at 307 West Broadway, is helping out by sponsoring a pop-up ACC adoption event in the heart of Bushwick. It's at a cool event space called The Spot, at 232 Varet Street and will run both Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 from 11am to 5pm.
If you're not sure if the timing is right, ACC has a foster-to-adopt program where you can bring the animal into your home for a few weeks and see if it's a match.
ACC spokeswoman Katy Hansen tells 1010 WINS, they're with you every step of the way. "You can see how the animal fits into your life, and we also help you through the entire process," says Hansen. "We have behavior consultants. We have nutrition consultants. You're not alone in this, so there's nothing to be nervous about."
Adoption fees will be waived for dogs and adult cats. The fee for kittens is $25, and all the animals come spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Prospective dog adopters will need to get a dog license as required by law.
If you think you might want to adopt, be sure to bring your phone (charged!) as the application is online. Also bring a state issued ID and proof of address, for example, a utility bill.
