NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) –A man who is facing charges for allegedly stabbing two teen tourists at Grand Central Terminal on Monday is now accused of attacking a fellow inmate at Rikers Island, according to reports.
Steven Hutcherson, 36, reportedly slashed another inmate in the face on Thursday morning, according to law enforcement sources told the New York Post.
Hutcherson allegedly used a 1.5-inch ceramic blade in this unprovoked attack to stab an inmate at around 8 a.m. inside a dorm at Rikers Island, according to the New York Post.
A correction officer intervened, using pepper spray on Hutcherson and ensuring the injured inmate received medical attention.
The victim was initially taken to the jail infirmary and later transported to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment of injuries to the left side of his head and face.
Officials from the Department of Corrections are currently investigating how Hutcherson was able to obtain the weapon.
As a result, Hutcherson was transferred to a separate Rikers jail away from other inmates.
Hutcherson is currently facing charges on attempted murder and assault charges related to the attack at a French restaurant inside Grand Central's dining concourse.
The victims of the Grand Central attack were two sisters, aged 14 and 16, who were visiting from Paraguay. They were enjoying a meal with their family when Hutcherson allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed them.
The attack on the teenage sisters left them with stab wounds, and they were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Hutcherson had already encountered the police at least 15 times this year, according to the New York Times.
