NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Mayor Eric Adams announced multiple COVID-19 milestones for New York City on Sunday, including free home delivery of antiviral medication to treat the virus.

COVID cases are down over 80% in the city since early January, the mayor said in a press conference held at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx.
Vaccination rates are also rising in the five boroughs with over 75% of all New Yorkers fully vaccinated, which is more than 11% more than the national average.
“Not only is New York City winning in the fight against COVID-19, but we are bringing even more help right to New Yorkers’ front doors to continue beating this pandemic,” said Adams.
The mayor, who was joined by city health officials, also announced the availability of different treatment options for New Yorkers who are COVID positive, including free, same-day delivery of antiviral medications to treat the virus.
“We must continue to do all we can to prevent needless suffering and death caused by COVID-19,” said New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Dave A. Chokshi. “These treatments — combined with high-quality masks, vaccination, testing, and our other public health precautions — help us to defang the virus and keep New Yorkers safe and healthy.”
The city’s health department pharmacy partner, Alto Pharmacy, is responsible for distributing the antiviral treatments Paxlovid and Molnupiravir which stops the virus from getting worse through a 5-day pill regimen.
Monoclonal antibody treatments such as Sotrovimab, which are a one-time injection or intravenous treatment, are also available to aid in recovery from COVID.
Due to limited supply of both monoclonal antibody treatments and antiviral pills, the treatments are prioritized for people who have tested positive and are at higher risk for severe illness.
New Yorkers who test positive should contact their doctor or call 212-COVID19 to be connected to care and to discuss treatment options available to them.
