NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A close confidant of Mayor Eric Adams firmly denied rumors that the mayor is eyeing a presidential run in 2024 and slammed the New York Post for publishing “gossip.”

Evan Thies, a communications consultant and a member of Adams’ inner circle, described the Post’s story as “One-hundred percent false.”

“There’s a difference between gossip and news — and the truth is that the mayor is completely focused on bringing New York City back by lowering crime, growing our economy and reversing inequality,” Thies told 1010 WINS.

The Post’s story cited anonymous City Hall insiders who allegedly claimed Adams is considering a potential run and had assigned staff to look into the possibility.

The New York City mayorship is often considered a dead-end job that forecloses opportunities for higher office.

In recent memory, Bill de Blasio, Mike Bloomberg and Rudy Giuliani all attempted to leverage the national platform afforded to them as New York City mayors into presidential runs. They all failed.
