NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York Attorney General Letitia James said Thursday that the Trump administrations accusations against her are “baseless” and part of a “Trump revenge tour.”
“Let me just say to all New Yorkers and to all Americans: The allegations are baseless,” James told NY1 during an interview. “The allegations are nothing more than a revenge tour.”
"It's important that individuals know that this is nothing more than the continuation of the tour," she said. "He went after law firms, universities, immigrants, women. Thousands of federal employees right now are unemployed. Our government is in chaos and disarray."
Earlier this week, a President Donald Trump’s federal housing director William Pulte referred James to the Department of Justice for potential criminal prosecution over alleged mortgage fraud.
Pulte sent a criminal referral to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy AG Todd Blanche on Monday, alleging James “falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms.”
One claim goes back to homes purchased in 1983 and 2000 in which James is listed as her father's wife instead of his daughter, according to the referral. Another allegation claims a Virginia home purchased with her niece in 2023 was listed as her principal residence.
A criminal referral doesn't equate to criminal charges; it essentially notifies authorities of potential criminal activity.
James’ office said Wednesday she “will not be intimidated by bullies no matter who they are.”
James has repeatedly drawn Trump’s ire, most notably after she successfully brought a $464 million New York civil fraud judgment against him and his company.
"Letitia James, a totally corrupt politician, should resign from her position as New York State Attorney General, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday. “Everyone is trying to MAKE NEW YORK GREAT AGAIN, and it can never be done with this wacky crook in office.”
