PLAINSBORO, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A police officer shot and killed a man in Plainsboro, N.J. at the Ravens Crest condo complex Wednesday shortly after 11:30 a.m., authorities said.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin is investigating to identify any potential wrongdoing.

Officers from the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office were outside the building when they encountered a man, whose identity has not yet been released, according to the Attorney General's office.

Police say one officer shot and killed the man.

Neighbors told CBS New York that the officers were there to serve an eviction notice. Police say they found a knife nearby after the shooting.

According to the attorney general's office, police performed first aid on the man. He was taken to Princeton Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:10 p.m., less than 40 minutes after the shooting.
