NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An armed man driving a stolen moped is accused of crashing into a bicyclist then fleeing the scene in Manhattan Wednesday night, authorities said.
At about 10:10 p.m., the 24-year-old suspect was driving southbound on Chrystie Street on the Lower East Side when he struck the 33-year-old bicyclist.
The victim was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue to be treated for head trauma, officials said.
The moped driver tried to run from the scene and was seen trying to throw away a gun, police said,.
The suspect, who hasn't been identified by the NYPD, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury and criminal possession of stolen property.
The moped was reportedly stolen from Queens, authorities said.
