(NEW YORK 1010 WINS) — Police are searching for a group of armed car thieves they said tied up the attendant of a paid parking lot in the Bronx and drove off in three stolen vehicles early Tuesday.
The incident happened at around 3 a.m., when according to officials, a car with four men inside drove up to the lot located at 2740 Webster Avenue in the Fordham neighborhood and inquired about how much it would cost to park there.
When the 58-year-old worker told the group that the lot was full, three men hopped out of the vehicle, including at least one armed with a gun, forced him into the service booth, authorities said.
The suspects began to kick the attendant and tied him up using cable wires from the booth, the NYPD told 1010 WINS.
Then men then entered three vehicles that had been left the idling– a Honda CRV, a Toyota Camry, and a Porsche and drove off, while the fourth suspect drove off in the car the group drove in with, the NYPD said.
According to police, the stolen vehicles were left running and sitting at the front of the lot because the attendant was warming them up for his early-morning customers.
Officials said the car thieves drove over the Broadway Bridge into Manhattan.
No arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.
An owner of one of the stolen vehicle told PIX11 that he saw the incident happen and pleaded with the thieves not to steal his car but backed away for fear that they might shoot him.
Police have not released a description of the thieves and an investigation is ongoing.
