NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police arrested a convicted sex offender Friday in the brutal beating of a woman on a bike path on Randalls Island a week ago.
Miguel Jiraud, 30, was charged with attempted murder and being held at the 25th precinct stationhouse in East Harlem.
He's been out on parole for a year following a conviction for a 2011 rape, officials said. His address is listed as the nearby Charles H. Gay Shelter Care Center For Men on Randalls Island.
His arrest came two days after police said they were searching for more leads in the attack Friday night near the 103rd Street foot bridge on Randalls Island.
The 44-year-old victim, Diana Agudelo, was discovered unresponsive beaten around 11:30 p.m. and discovered the next morning by a passerby. She had serious physical injuries from being struck multiple times in the head and face, according to police.
She was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where she remains critical condition and on life support. Her family said she has a 1% chance of survival.

Police believe Jiraud knocked Agudelo off her bike, beat her and stole her backpack and e-bike before leaving her for dead. A good Samaritan found her six hours later.
The victim's family said she bikes to and from her job at the Museum of the City of New York in Manhattan and was headed home when she was attacked.
Police said her biked was later thrown into the East River but that it had been recovered and was being analyzed for forensics.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Friday that they had identified the suspect after an intense investigation.
"Earlier this week we had a horrific assault on a woman on Randalls Island," Tisch said. "She received immediate medical attention and is currently in the hospital fighting for her life. We had a very aggressive investigation, and we have identified a person we believe to be responsible for that assault."
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told NBC New York that it was "one of the worst beatings I’ve ever seen."
"Facial fractures. Orbital bone cracked. Skull fracture. The base of her skull is cracked. Her nose is broken," Kenny said.
