NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 38-year-old woman is recovering after a man beat her and tried to rape her while she was in Central Park on Saturday, and police are on the hunt for the assailant.

At 5:10 p.m., the survivor was in the vicinity of 85 East Drive, near Lasker Rink. East Drive—a paved route for runners, walkers, cyclists, skaters, scooters, pedicabs, and horse carriages—runs from Fifth Avenue and Central Park South to Central Park North and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd.

She was approached by a stranger who pushed her over a metal fence, punched her in the face repeatedly and attempted to rape her, police said.
After the attack, the suspect fled on his bike out of the park and northbound on Fifth Avenue.

The survivor was transported by EMS to a local hospital in stable condition.
In surveillance video provided by police on Sunday, the suspect is seen riding what appears to be an e-bike and toting a large black delivery bag on his back. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, cap and sneakers.

In the Central Park Precinct, major crimes are up nearly 13% from this time last year, according to the newest NYPD data. While most of these felonies are marked as robberies or grand larceny, there have been 4 rapes and 11 other sex crimes reported in the park as of Oct. 20 this year.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
