NEW YORK (1010 WINS) After more than 110 years of saving lives at their shelter on 38th and 1st avenue in Manhattan, one of the nation's longest serving animal rescue organizations is moving across town.
Bideawee has cut the ribbon on their new shelter at 152 West 24th Street. CEO Leslie Granger told 1010 WINS, "No more having to find your way over to 38th street between 1st and the FDR. You are (now) able to take mass transit, are near Penn Station, and are really in the center of everything."
The new facility is also state of the art, with the cats and dogs on separate floors. The dog kennels are free of bars and include built in Kuranda beds, and the shelter also includes an outdoor space where potential adopters can interact with the dogs. "That is something that we, in our wildest dreams, could not imagine", says Granger. "It's going to provide the dogs in our care with that extra something that enables them to go into homes with a little bit better foundation of skills." Granger says that will include puppy play groups and training sessions.
