NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A listeria outbreak traced back to a Brooklyn-based ice cream brand has led to recalls in 19 U.S. states, including New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut, as well as Washington D.C.
The FDA announced the recall on Thursday, in which Real Kosher took its Soft Serve On The Go line of ice cream off the shelves.
The FDA is currently investigating the ice cream, after two people were hospitalized with listeria infections. Per the FDA, no deaths have been reported in connection to the infections.
In compliance with the FDA's investigation, Real Kosher has halted production of all six flavors of Soft Serve On The Go.
According to the FDA, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture reported that an unopened sample of Soft Serve On The Go, taken from the house of a sick person, tested positive for listeria.
Real Kosher's Soft Serve On The Go cups had been sold in canteens and grocery and convenience stores, most commonly along the East and West coasts, the CDC says.
The listeria bacteria generally causes only short-term symptoms like high fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, but in pregnant women, the infection may lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.
