NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A truck driver was charged on Thursday for a hit-and-run outside Central Park last summer that left a man critically injured, police said.

Luis Cedeno Pluas, 59, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious injuries in relation to the collision.

At about 6 a.m. on Aug. 31, 2024, officers responded to a scene at 40 Central Park South in Midtown and discovered a man unconscious and unresponsive in the roadway.

Medics transported him to NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center with head trauma and in critical condition.

According to an investigation by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad, the victim was standing in the right most lane of westbound West 59th Street when a 2004 Isuzu NP3 truck—a model of box truck—struck him.

The driver, allegedly Cedeno Pluas, did not remain at the scene.
While lying in the road, the victim was struck again by a 2023 Toyota Sienna.

The 63-year-old man driving did remain at the scene, and no charges were brought against him.

The victim was homeless, according to a report from the New York Daily News, and he is expected to fully recover while receiving care at a long-term rehabilitation facility.
