MEDFORD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A 12-year-old boy foiled a burglary while home alone on Long Island this week, jumping out a window and leading cops to a suspect, Suffolk County police said.

The boy was cleaning his bedroom in Medford shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday when he heard glass break in the kitchen and heard someone “moving around the house,” according to police and his family.

He broke his bedroom window, jumped outside and looked back to see an unknown man inside the home, police said.

The child hid in the backyard and called police, who responded within three minutes and nabbed a suspect at the Eagle Avenue home.

“He stayed in the backyard until he saw that the police were here,” the boy’s grandmother told 1010 WINS.

The boy was not physically injured in the break-in, police said.

“Very brave,” the boy’s grandmother said. “We’re thankful that he’s OK.”

Christian Garcia, 53, was found inside the home, police said.

Garcia, who is homeless, was charged with burglary and possession of burglar’s tools.
