NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 15-year-old boy was injured Tuesday evening when he fell from a train car while subway surfing in the Bronx, police said.

The teen plunged from a northbound 5 train around 6 p.m. as the train was traveling between the Gun Hill Road and the Pelham Parkway stations.

He suffered a head injury in the fall but survived and was taken "conscious and alert" to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, police said.

The teen was with a group of friends at the time, but he was subway surfing by himself, sources told 1010 WINS.

Service on the 5 line was disrupted for about two hours as emergency personnel responded.

Subway surfers has been a continual nuisance for police and the MTA, which has worked with social media companies to remove videos of the dangerous stunt and launched a campaign in 2023, “Ride Inside, Stay Alive.”

Subway surfing deaths were up last year with six people killed, including two teens in one week in late October.
