NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in the courtyard of a public housing complex in Canarsie on Tuesday night, police said.
Crime scene tape was still dangling Wednesday morning at NYCHA's Bay View Houses, where the teen was gunned down around 9 p.m.
NYPD officers responding to a 911 call found the victim near a playground behind 1550 East 102nd St. with a gunshot wound to the chest.
He was rushed by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Brookdale, where he was pronounced dead.
He was identified by the NYPD as Javel Lawton, of Canarsie. Investigators believe he was targeted.
The shooter or shooters fled the scene, and no arrests had been reported as of Wednesday.
Detectives from the 69th Precinct are working the case and reviewing surveillance cameras as they search for the killer.
